How to develop a Marketing Strategy

Updated: Mar 21, 2023

Marketing is an extremely valuable way to advertise your business. With all of the possibilities you need to narrow it down to a plan that can reach a niche audience of potential customers who are likely to be interested in your product or services. However, sending your product to a variety of social media platforms isn't just going to make your product sell or bring customers to your business. Instead, you’ll need to develop a marketing strategy when it comes to how to target your audience and how to approach them in order to make your campaigns successful. With so many people using the Internet as a primary form of communication and viewing advertisements, it is essential that companies use a strategy to get their business and products noticed.

TYPE OF BUSINESS

Your brand is extremely important when it comes to sales. You're not just selling an item or a service to your customers but an experience of your business. A successful business needs to know exactly what experience they want its customers to have when they make (or considers) a purchase. Then you will need to figure out your target audience. The best way to build an audience is within your product or business niche. Before you approach a potential customer, you need to evaluate their interests or whether your product or service will interest them. For example, if you're selling summer dresses and you build an audience of mostly teenage girls and women. Therefore, by advertising men's suits with your audience, you will most likely will not see a return.

FIND THE PERFECT PLATFORM

There are many social media platforms, and you might have heard of a few, but which one should you use? To solve this mystery, you first have to figure out who is your target audience and where they hang out. Let's say we are selling a book for kids. Here you have two target audiences: the parent and the child. Figure out what are apps or websites a kid will go on to read. Then figure out where a parent would go to buy their kid a book. Another key to choosing which platform is perfect for your business is to know which platform you are the most comfortable with. For example: If you don't want to make videos for your business it doesn't help if your business if you have Youtube and never uses it.

AN ENGAGED AUDIENCES

A social media page needs to entertain its audience. Customers need a reason to come back to your page. This can be done with advertising or posting new content. Depending what kind of content, you will be putting on your platform will determine how often someone will visit your page. If you have a Youtube channel video that teaches high schoolers how to do the math. Throughout the year you will most likely have high schoolers going to your videos to learn how to do the math. Then perhaps new high schoolers every year would come to your Youtube channel to learn that same math. That is one video with potential views every year.

TAKE MARKETING SERIOUSLY

One mistake many businesses make is not following through with their marketing strategy. Putting a plan together takes time and effort. You can't at the last minute without a budget advertise a new product or service. There are many businesses out there competing just like you to get the word out about their business. The best way to hold yourself accountable will be to write down your goal and have deadlines set. For Example: If you want to launch a holiday brand for Valentine's Day. Make a marketing strategy plan for that event. What will you sell? What theme colors will be used? Will your online page change its colors? What is the budget? When is the deadline? When will you launch it? Having the smallest detail figured out is essential to your project so in the middle of the project you're not fixing the plan.

DEVELOP A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CUSTOMER

Developing a relationship with your customers helps their reviews seem more authentic. Asking a customer to review a product that they have never seen or used before will have customer question the integrity of your business. If something seems out of place on your social network customers are very likely to leave right away. If your niche is dog items and when a customer clicks "dog clothes" and your website sends them to a page about "foods dogs can't eat" they will leave right away. With this, you risk them telling other customers that you are selling tips on dog health rather than dog items. It is important to develop a lasting and trusting relationship. This means that they will likely be talking about your business or product more often over time, which will drive more conversions than just one random mention.
